Glad You're Here by mysterycycle Glad You're Here by mysterycycle
This is my first attempt at using colored lines. It didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped, but now that I've finally grasped how to do it (thanks to :iconshoomlah: and her tutorial), I think I may do better the next time.

I just finished playing through Hanako's path for the fourth time the other night, and I'm currently playing through Lilly's for the second time. Still every bit as much emotional impact.

Made in SAI and Photoshop.

Here's what it looked like before I colored the lines: [link]

Lilly, Hanako and Katawa Shoujo are Four Leaf Studios.

That would be up to you. Sometimes the simplest decisions are the most difficult.

I know where *I'd* sit.

Just look at that massive subwoofer in the background. They're gettin' their dance on in there after hours, I just know it.

This just isn't fair. Too good to be fanart, you need to get started on your own game.

Ha ha, thank you both. I started jotting down notes for a VN idea I had, and even got a friend involved for a little while, but I think the enormity of the task began to dawn on us both. Not that it couldn't still happen, but I've got the doujin to finish first, at the least...

In the meantime, I've still got all these feels to deal with.

I really like the lighting, really gives you that warm sunlight feel, I'm going to use this as a reference if I ever do a sunset scene.

i love the little details you put into this. Like Lilly putting her pieces elegantly lined up, and Hanako just setting hers down. It's a really sweet mood, too! Great job

Well done. Perspective is hard, but you pull it off fantastically. The colored lines make a big difference too, it makes the image warmer.

I appreciate that! I'm glad it turned out okay. I was a little worried that the three-point perspective would give it an uneasy feeling, like a fish-eye lens, and have the opposite effect of what I was aiming for. But I've been getting lazy lately and not drawing backgrounds, so with this pic I really wanted to break that habit and make myself work. That, and I've been wanting to fiddle with three-point perspective for a while now.

great picture! But what i'm most impressed with are the objects in the drawing. Those chairs and chess set look incredible!

Thank you! I had originally drawn the chairs completely differently - I made those uncomfortable colored plastic chairs they used to have at my high school. Then I decided I should look at the picture of the room from the game and realized the chairs were completely different. I had also forgotten that the tea room was an empty classroom, not just a tiny side room, so all of the cupboards I had drawn needed to be erased, too. Lesson learned: always check your photo references.

By feel. The dark squares are slightly raised, and every piece has a peg that fits into a hole in the center of the square. Each of the pieces has a different profile, and she's arranged her captured pieces by height (though I probably should have turned them around so she could more easily feel the heads of the pieces).
